CarMax Disaster Relief Fund — facts and figures
Since being established in 2005, the CarMax Associate Disaster Relief Fund has granted over $212,680 to more than 241 Associates in need. The fund assists Associates directly affected by a natural disaster—hurricane, earthquake, tornado, or flood—
or dealing with catastrophic emergencies, like house fires or high medical bills due to serious health issues. Associates can receive up to $1,500 from the fund.
Associates and the general public can donate to the CarMax Disaster Relief Fund, and Associate donations are eligible for The CarMax Foundation's Matching Gifts Program.
In Florida, when we had three hurricanes in three years, we gave every one of our Associates 10 gallons of gas from the tanks at our stores, because they couldn't get it elsewhere. We loaded up armored trucks and made payroll with cash, because people didn't have access to ATMs and banks.
